taking root

rooted…green silk recycled scarf

she stood tall
in the summer’s
warm, swaying,
meadow grasses
facing the ancient
solitary
great oak tree
she asked
to be connected
to its knotted gnarled roots
which anchored it deep
into mother earth
to be connected
to its extensive wingspan
of branches
which reached
up
up
and up
touching the fingertips
of heavens light
she wanted to feel its strength
she wanted to feel its spirit
which endured centuries
of searing droughts
and pounding rains
and the cycle of the seasons
and generations of men
as others passed
it remained
solid
stable
stately
and deeply
rooted
