the perilous question

I love playing Etsy’s weekly Trendsetting Team’s Scavenger Hunt game!  The prior week’s winner provides 15 words + a shop, and the contestants create a treasury with an item from the shop and items/images from the Etsy website that match the 15 words.

…………I always love to take it one step further and write a snippet of a story, to accompany the treasury, using the 15 chosen words………………………………………

This week I couldn’t resist Lauryn’s wonderful words…leaves, moon, haunted, spirit, spooky, costume, wicked, cobweb, squash/gourd, dried, owl, magic, trick or treat, creepy, bones

Written using all of Lauryn’s chosen words:

The perilous question….

It was a deep, dark place of MAGIC
she could feel it in her BONES
even the MOON was HAUNTED
as it clung to the edge of the dark sky
a ghostly silhouette
a shrunken, SPOOKY thin sliver
of the fullness, it once had been
she felt the WICKED, CREEPY creep

of a tingle of terror run down her spine

Slide1

she wore no COSTUME in this place
she knew the SPIRITS would not be fooled
she SQUASHED
DRIED LEAVES underfoot
they crackled and crunched
too loudly as she neared
the COBWEBS hung thick
within the air
she started,
as an OWL hooted
from afar
even the birds
would not venture near
she shivered and shook
as she pondered
the perilous question
the wrong choice
could end her life
to proffer a TRICK,
or a TREAT ?
the evil darkness
in this place
would not allow
a second chance
