the cottage

This week’s story snippet was inspired by and written using Laura’s 15 chosen words for the 48th Peppermint Creek Collective’s Scavenger Hunt Challenge…

……Here’s Laura’s 15 chosen words: Bohemian, desert, rainbow, figs, Italy, shoreline, Vintage kitchen, cat, basket, Hydrangea, cottage, boat, mountains, forest, heart

…………….and here’s the story that I wrote using her words…

“the cottage”

in her uniquely Bohemian way
she was always restless
always searching
but never exactly sure
what she was seeking
she was ruled by the whimsical wishes
of her wayward heart

one day
on a spontaneous trip to the mountains
of Northern Italy
on a long hike
up a earthen rural road
she spotted
a for sale sign
on a small crumbling cottage
on the edge of a forest
the window of its vintage kitchen
overlooked the shoreline of
a deserted lake
without a boat in sight
the garden was overgrown
with hydrangea bushes and fig trees

the place felt enchanted
the place just felt so perfectly
she could see herself
and her cat curled up in basket
by the fireplace
on a cold winter’s night

she felt
so very much like
she had just come home

she went deep within
and asked for a sign
and turned to see
the most beautiful
vibrant arch of a rainbow
across the sky

so the very next day
she went into town
and bought the place
and quickly moved in
to the happily ever after
that she had always
and finally had
