the gypsy moon

……..this week the chosen words came from Laura in the Peppermint Creek Collective’s Scavenger Hunt Game….

………..Here are Laura’s chosen words: cat, trees, train, cabin, horse, autumn, Bohemian, fruit, coffee pot, pottery, gypsy, hydrangea, something, vintage, kitchen, linen, moon….

…………..and here’s the “story snippet” that I wrote using Laura’s wonderful words…..

“the gypsy moon”

it all started
during the “gypsy moon”
that’s what her Bohemian
grandmother always called it
the enormous harvest moon
that rose past
the hydrangea bushes
hovering
just above
the orchard
with trees heavy
with the final ripeness of fruit

g1

she paused to watch
the silvery lunar fullness
from the window
of her vintage kitchen
as she boiled water for tea
in the old coffee pot
barely noticing the cat’s purr
as it rubbed against her legs
barely hearing the distant whistle
of a train

g2

her grandmother had the talent
she could easily pass through
portals of time
slipping into past lives
especially now
with the approach of autumn
when the veils became thin

g3

this time
there was something about
this moon
there was something about
this moment
she could
sense faint fragments
feel forgotten memories
drifting past
she saw
a rough hewn cabin
a saddled horse
stamping
she heard
the crunch of broken pottery
she felt
the touch of textured hand-spun linen
she knew
it was real
from another time
from another place
