requiem

….this week the words were the ones that I chose for the Peppermint Creek Collective’s Scavenger Hunt Game…

…My chosen words: maiden, male, manor, manuscript, marble, mare, mark, masterpiece, meadow, medieval, mess, moss, mountain, movement, mythic…..

……and here’s the story snippet that I wrote using those words……

“requiem”

she had loved him every since
she was a very young maiden
chasing him in
the vast gardens
of the medieval manor
playing hide and seek
in the stall of the great grey mare

his mark was everywhere
in the pages of manuscript
she couldn’t help but touch
the letters written
in his messy male scrawl

she felt his presence
in the soft cool moss
at the edge of the meadow
on a hot summer day
they would watch the clouds
drift
across
the high mountain passes

she felt his strong arms
wrapped around her
in the final movements
of the strain of a waltz
they had danced so very close
in the marble courtyard
under the silvery mythic moonlight

each memory of him
was a single stanza
in the magnificent masterpiece
played so deeply within
her aching
heart
